The area planted with industrial hemp in the United States surged by 64% in 2024, reaching nearly 45,300 acres. This growth reflects a significant trend in the hemp industry, as the total value of U.S. hemp production climbed to $445 million, a 40% increase compared to the previous year, according to the latest National Hemp Report.

Floral hemp has become a key driver of this expansion, with production levels more than doubling to 20.8 million pounds, representing a 159% rise over 2023. The harvested area of hemp also saw a substantial increase, growing to just under 32,700 acres, with an average yield per acre of 1,757 pounds, an increase of 60% from the previous year.

Notably, floral hemp accounted for 87% of the total value of hemp grown, indicating a strong market demand for this segment. Meanwhile, seed hemp experienced the most remarkable surge in value, skyrocketing almost 500% to reach $16.9 million. This growth in both acreage and yield illustrates the increasing viability of hemp as a profitable crop in U.S. agriculture.

The report highlights that the expanding hemp sector is contributing positively to the agricultural landscape, prompting more farmers to consider hemp cultivation as a viable option for their operations.
