The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) will host a panel discussion titled “Cannabis & Gaming” on May 19, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. PST. This event is part of the Cannabis Policy Institute’s (CPI) Cannabis Speakers Series and will take place in the moot courtroom of the William S. Boyd School of Law, as well as online.
The panel will begin with a presentation by Marla Royne Stafford, the research director at CPI, who will share recent findings on the relationship between cannabis use and gaming behaviors. Following her presentation, Riana Durrett, director of CPI, will outline the organization’s ongoing research and initiatives aimed at understanding this intersection.
Durrett will moderate the subsequent panel discussion, which will address current policy limitations regarding cannabis and gaming, as well as explore future opportunities in this area. Panelists will include: – Terry Johnson, a former member of the Nevada Gaming Control Board and an adjunct professor at UNLV Law; – David Goldwater, an operator of cannabis establishments and a consultant in government affairs; – Seth Schorr, a gaming executive with extensive experience in the industry.
Brett Abarbanel, executive director of the International Gaming Institute (IGI), will serve as the event’s emcee, utilizing her expertise in gaming research and policy to facilitate the conversation.
