Detroit will host its first legal cannabis retail pop-up during the Movement Music Festival, taking place from May 24 to May 26, 2023. The pop-up, called The Trap, is located just two blocks from Hart Plaza, the main festival site, and has received approvals from various city departments, including the Office of Cannabis Affairs and the mayor’s office.
Presented by JARS Cannabis, which is the exclusive cannabis sponsor of the festival for the fourth consecutive year, The Trap aims to integrate cannabis culture with Detroit’s vibrant music scene. JARS Cannabis COO Raymond Abro described The Trap as embodying ‘raw Detroit energy in its purest form,’ highlighting the connection between cannabis, culture, and community.
The Movement Music Festival, which occurs during Memorial Day weekend, is one of the longest-running electronic dance music festivals globally. It attracts tens of thousands of attendees to Detroit’s riverfront, celebrating the city’s historical influence on the genre.
The Trap will offer a full range of cannabis products, including premium flower, edibles, concentrates, and vape products from notable brands like Jungle Juice, Spyder Legs, and Stiiizy. Additionally, festival-goers can enjoy live performances from DJs and emcees throughout the weekend.
However, on-site consumption of cannabis will not be permitted at The Trap. According to Michigan law, cannabis consumption is restricted to private settings, designated consumption establishments, or authorized temporary marijuana events. Public use remains illegal in most areas, including parks and concert venues. Although Detroit has legalized cannabis consumption lounges, none are currently operational.
In conjunction with The Trap, JARS will also oversee the Waterfront Stage at the Movement festival for the third consecutive year. This area features a mix of music styles, including funk, hip-hop, and breakbeats, and includes interactive installations to engage attendees.
Abro emphasized that JARS’s presence at the festival reflects Detroit’s essence, stating, ‘Every element of our Movement footprint is designed to reflect the city’s hustle, heart, and creative fire.’
As the pop-up and festival approach, JARS Cannabis aims to create a unique experience that highlights both cannabis and Detroit’s rich cultural landscape.
