Gouverneur Pillen unterstützt die Kommission für medizinisches Cannabis in Nebraska

Governor Jim Pillen of Nebraska has announced that his administration will provide support and resources to the newly formed Medical Cannabis Commission as it begins its regulatory duties. This initiative follows the approval of two statutory measures related to medical cannabis by voters in November 2024. The Nebraska Medical Cannabis Patient Protection Act and the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Regulation Act are now officially part of the state law.

The Medical Cannabis Commission will consist of five members, including three ex officio members from the Liquor Control Commission and two members appointed by the Governor. Governor Pillen has already selected two qualified individuals for these appointments, emphasizing the importance of strict regulation in the emerging medical cannabis industry.

“I urge the Legislature to promptly confirm them so they can start developing effective regulations for the medical cannabis sector,” said Governor Pillen.

The Commission is set to meet its first key deadlines on July 1 and October 1 of this year. The Governor’s administration will support the Commission through the Policy Research Office and the Department of Administrative Services, ensuring that it has the necessary resources to fulfill its responsibilities under the newly enacted laws.

With operational funding already allocated to the Medical Cannabis Commission, it is equipped to function effectively within the parameters of current regulations. The combination of statutory authority and administrative backing aims to facilitate the Commission’s work in establishing clear and enforceable rules for the medical cannabis industry in Nebraska.
