This funding is generated from a 10% tax on sales at dispensaries, with host communities receiving a substantial portion. Austintown, along with other localities such as Struthers, Niles, and Girard, could potentially lose between $200,000 to $700,000 annually if the bill is enacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ohio legalized recreational marijuana in 2023, with the understanding that communities hosting dispensaries would benefit financially. Santos highlighted the importance of this funding, stating, “We can grab hold of this source without asking our residents for more money when they are already struggling with inflation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the past, Santos expressed frustration over the state taking away promised funds meant for law enforcement, stating, “This is strike two.
