A Michigan company, an affiliate of Dragonfly Brands, is pursuing a zoning change to establish Broome County’s first cannabis packaging facility. The proposed site is located at 1245 Front Street in the town of Chenango, previously home to Tokyo Sushi Buffet.
The town planning board has scheduled a public hearing for next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Chenango town hall to discuss a special use permit necessary for the operation. Current zoning regulations do not permit the cannabis packaging factory at this location, prompting the need for the hearing.
Dragonfly Brands CEO Ching Ho, who grew up in Chenango, emphasized the importance of the project for the community. He stated that revitalizing the property, which has been neglected for years, would also create local jobs. The local entity, Dragonfly Kitchen IV, has already received a license from the New York State Office of Cannabis Management to operate a processing and manufacturing facility at this site.
Ching Ho was unavailable for further comment, as he is currently preparing for the planting season in Michigan. In a recent email, he expressed his commitment to contributing to the community where he was raised, stating, ‘There is no better way to contribute back to the community.’
The upcoming public hearing will allow community members to voice their opinions on the proposed facility, which could mark a significant development in local cannabis operations.
