Connecticut’s recreational cannabis sales reached a new record in May 2025, according to recent data from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Retailers reported approximately $18.7 million in sales of adult-use cannabis products, surpassing April’s total of $17.5 million and the previous record of $17.9 million set in December 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In terms of pricing, cannabis in Connecticut averaged $9.98 per gram in May, a slight decrease from April’s average of $10.03. However, this marks a decline from a peak of $12.16 per gram in July 2024, with the price generally decreasing each month, except for a minor increase of one cent from January to February 2025. The highest average price recorded during this period was $12.51 per gram in March 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
May also saw a record number of adult-use cannabis products sold, with around 832,600 items purchased compared to approximately 505,000 in April. Conversely, the medical marijuana market experienced a slight drop, with sales totaling about $6.5 million in May from about $6.7 million in April. The number of medical products sold also slightly decreased from 195,000 to 194,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cannabis flower remains the most popular category, making up 45% of sales in May and 48% since the start of legal recreational sales in January 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the increase in sales and a decrease in the average price per gram, Connecticut’s cannabis market still trails behind other New England states. In 2024, Connecticut had the highest average price per gram and the lowest per capita sales when compared to Maine, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. In Massachusetts, adult-use cannabis sales reached $142 million, with an average price of just $3.31 per gram as of April 2025. Comparatively, Connecticut’s adult-use sales exceeded those of Rhode Island, where retailers reported $8.68 million in sales in May 2025, although Rhode Island does not disclose pricing data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
