Kentucky has made progress in its medical marijuana initiative with the recent inauguration of one of the state’s largest cannabis cultivation sites, operated by Cresco Labs. During a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday in Winchester, Governor Andy Beshear and local leaders celebrated this significant development in the state’s burgeoning cannabis sector.
Cresco Labs, which operates in nine states, showcased its 25,000-square-foot facility, with CEO Charlie Bachtell announcing that the first phase of construction is set to conclude by August. The company plans to have medical cannabis products available for purchase by December. Bachtell emphasized Cresco’s experience in launching medical cannabis programs in other states, such as Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, noting their understanding of the requirements for establishing a successful operation.
Governor Beshear highlighted that the facility’s opening marks a pivotal moment in providing Kentucky residents with safe and regulated access to medical cannabis. He stated that the focus remains on facilitating quick and safe access for patients suffering from conditions like PTSD and chronic pain.
As of now, over 13,000 Kentuckians have obtained certification for a medical cannabis card following the legalization of medical marijuana earlier this year. The facility is expected to create numerous job opportunities for local residents, further contributing to the state’s economy. Beshear affirmed that all cultivation staff will be Kentucky residents, which he described as a way of supporting local families.
