FOND DU LAC, Minn. – ANANG Native Cannabis Company celebrated its grand opening today following a soft launch earlier this week. Located on Big Lake Road, at the border of Cloquet and the Fond du Lac Reservation, the dispensary aims to contribute to the local economy with its motto: ‘Products with Purpose, From Soil to Soul.’
Caleb Dunlap, the Communications Director for the Fond du Lac Reservation, highlighted the economic benefits of the dispensary. ‘The economic impact is really important, not just for the tribal community but for the entire region,’ he stated. ANANG has created approximately 15 full-time jobs, employing local residents from the surrounding Duluth-Superior area.
The establishment of ANANG follows the legalization of cannabis in Minnesota in 2023, positioning the company as a pioneering force in the area. Dunlap expressed optimism about the future: ‘As cannabis expands across the state, we can serve as a resource for other communities. Our name, ANANG, means ‘star’ in Ojibwe, symbolizing our goal to be a guiding light in this new industry.’
In preparation for this launch, the Fond du Lac Band has established a cannabis regulatory committee and is cultivating its own cannabis products using organic methods, including living soils and natural spring water. In the dispensary, customers can explore a variety of products, including flower, bud, and a selection of edibles.
Dunlap emphasized the importance of educating customers about their options. ‘Our menu features creative names that help customers identify different strains. Our staff is knowledgeable about the medicinal properties of our products,’ he mentioned.
He expressed pride in the company’s mission, stating, ‘We are stepping out boldly, representing a guiding light for our community. Our logo reflects this commitment, and we aim to have a positive impact on both our people and the surrounding area.’
As ANANG Native Cannabis Company begins its operations, it aims to set a standard in the cannabis industry while fostering economic growth and community engagement on the Fond du Lac Reservation.
