Four men have received prison sentences totaling over six years for their involvement in cannabis production in Newmarket, UK. The investigation began on January 23, when officers stopped a vehicle on Church Lane. The driver, 23-year-old Valentin Hasani from London, was detained after officers found equipment commonly used for cannabis cultivation.
Following this, police conducted a search at a property on St Mary’s Square, where they discovered a cannabis grow operation containing 150 plants. At the scene, officers arrested 21-year-old Enerik Visha, also from London, who was present at the location.
While law enforcement was investigating the property, two additional suspects, 33-year-old Vilson Hyara and 27-year-old Jeta Lushi, both with no fixed address, attempted to enter. Hyara was apprehended immediately, while Lushi fled but was caught after a brief chase.
On May 22, all four men appeared at Cambridge Crown Court and pleaded guilty to their respective charges. Hasani received a two-year sentence for possessing false documents with intent to deceive and for involvement in cannabis production. Hyara was sentenced to 18 months, while Visha received a 12-month term for their roles in the cannabis operation. Lushi faced the longest sentence of 20 months, as he was also convicted of possessing false documents.
Sergeant George Laflin commented on the operation’s success, noting the effectiveness of police work in gathering evidence that led to the swift guilty pleas from the offenders. This case underscores ongoing law enforcement efforts to combat illegal cannabis cultivation in the region.
