Sioux City man arrested for OWI and marijuana possession

A 39-year-old man from Sioux City, Bryan Michael Rickman, was arrested early Sunday, June 22, at approximately 3:05 a.m. in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He faces multiple charges including first-offense operating while under the influence (OWI), first-offense possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of an open container of alcohol, and speeding.

Rickman’s arrest occurred after law enforcement stopped his 2020 Subaru Crosstrek for speeding. Upon interaction with the deputy from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Rickman exhibited several concerning signs: bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, and the distinct odor of marijuana.

During questioning, Rickman admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages that evening and acknowledged using marijuana the previous day. He also confessed that there was marijuana present in the vehicle. A subsequent probable cause search revealed several items related to marijuana, including THC products, marijuana flower, and drug paraphernalia.

As a result of these offenses, Rickman now faces potential legal penalties, which may include fines, mandatory drug assessments, and other consequences typically associated with OWI and marijuana possession charges in Iowa.
