Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple has issued a warning regarding THC-infused gummies following a troubling incident involving a 4-year-old girl. The child experienced hallucinations and bit her parents after consuming two gummies labeled ‘Super Smacked Bears,’ which contain 60 mg of THC each.
The incident occurred when the girl was at her father’s workplace and discovered the gummies in a lunchbox alongside a 6-year-old child. The older child tasted one gummy but rejected it, while the 4-year-old ingested two. Approximately 90 minutes later, the girl woke up from a nap in distress, reporting visions of animals approaching her. In her agitation, she bit her parents, causing injuries that broke the skin.
Emergency services transported the child to Albany Medical Center, where she received medical attention. Sheriff Apple emphasized the need for stricter regulations on the packaging of cannabis products, noting that the colorful and appealing designs can attract children and lead to dangerous situations. He called for changes to ensure that such products are less accessible to young children, highlighting the importance of safety in the evolving cannabis landscape.
