A significant change has occurred at the cannabis kiosk located in Brookfield Square, Wisconsin. The kiosk, operated by Ethereal Gold Dispensary, recently removed psychedelic mushrooms after a request from the mall’s property management company, CBL Properties. This decision followed some shoppers’ concerns regarding the presence of these products within the kiosk. However, the owner, Bill Fuchs, emphasized that the mushroom products were legal under current regulations.
Despite the removal of psychedelic mushrooms, the kiosk continues to offer a variety of cannabis products. Fuchs mentioned that the mall management acknowledged the legality of the products before requesting their removal. The Brookfield Police Department also confirmed that the kiosk has been operating legally for over a year. The kiosk had recently relocated to an entrance near Barnes & Noble within the mall.
Fuchs explained that the kiosk operates under strict guidelines, ensuring that buyers’ credit card names match their identification. He noted that the kiosk does not dispense products to anyone under the age of 21. After removing the mushrooms, Fuchs replaced them with gummies and other products aimed at improving sleep, pain relief, and overall wellness. He assured customers that all items comply with legal THC limits and that none of the mushroom products contain psilocybin, despite being labeled as “magic mushrooms.”
As the public becomes more informed, Fuchs has observed reactions of surprise and curiosity about the legality of the products. However, not all local residents share this positive view. Pewaukee resident Mary Favero expressed her belief that the kiosk should be removed entirely, while mall walker Carol Hartung raised concerns about potential misuse of identification by minors.
Looking ahead, Brookfield Alderman Mike Hallquist is proposing a city ordinance that would require cannabinoid-derived products to be sold only from physical storefronts, which would effectively ban kiosks and similar vending machines. This move reflects ongoing community discussions around the presence of cannabis products in public spaces.
