Virginia Cannabis Control Authority Appoints New Acting Head

The Virginia Cannabis Control Authority (CCA) has appointed a new Acting Head for the agency following the departure of its previous Acting Head, Jeremy Preiss. Preiss left the CCA after more than three years of service, a period during which he contributed significantly to the agency’s efforts in regulating cannabis in Virginia.

On March 26, the CCA’s Board of Directors announced that Jamie Patten, the Chief Administrative Officer, will step into the role of Acting Head. This transition comes at a crucial time for the agency as it continues to navigate the evolving landscape of cannabis regulation in the state.

Reflecting on his time at the CCA, Preiss expressed his optimism for the agency’s future. He noted that he feels “heartened by the many contributions the CCA’s talented team has made to the Commonwealth’s public safety and health since it started operations.” He also voiced confidence in Patten’s capability to lead the agency moving forward.

John Keohane, Chairman of the CCA Board, highlighted Patten’s extensive experience in public administration and her strong commitment to the CCA’s mission. Patten herself stated, “I’m excited to lead the agency during this dynamic time in cannabis regulation.” She emphasized that the CCA will maintain its focus on public safety, public health, and community protection as it continues its important work.
