A new medical cannabis cultivation and production facility is set to open in southern Kentucky in January 2026. The groundbreaking for this facility, operated by Centaurus Farms, took place recently on an 86-acre site managed by the Monticello-Wayne County Industrial Authority. This marks a significant development in the state’s medical cannabis industry.
Monticello Mayor Kenny Catron noted the community’s advantages in attracting the facility. He emphasized that the area was fortunate to have a build-ready site with all necessary utilities in place. Catron mentioned that the local government had already approved sales of medical cannabis, positioning the community favorably compared to others that may not have been as prepared.
Catron also highlighted Monticello’s historical connection to cannabis production. He remarked that the city had gained attention in High Times magazine in the past, although that was in relation to illegal marijuana production. Now, with legal sales on the horizon, the community is looking forward to a new chapter in cannabis cultivation.
The operations at Centaurus Farms are expected to create around 100 jobs with competitive pay, and there may be opportunities for additional employment in the future. This facility is a pivotal step in expanding Kentucky’s medical cannabis landscape.
