Menominee approves cannabis dispensary on Kmart site

MENOMINEE — A cannabis dispensary will soon be established at 1101 7th St., the site of a former Kmart, following a recent decision by the Menominee Planning Commission. In a special meeting held Thursday, the commission voted 8-1 in favor of a boundary adjustment for two parcels within the former Kmart property.

Commissioner Julie Flores was the sole dissenting vote in this decision. The approval marks a significant step towards the development of the dispensary, which is anticipated to serve the local community by providing access to cannabis products.

The Planning Commission’s vote facilitates the necessary adjustments to the property boundaries, allowing the dispensary to move forward with its plans. This development is part of a broader trend of cannabis legalization and commercialization across various states, reflecting changing attitudes toward cannabis use and regulation.

As the project progresses, further details about the dispensary’s operational plans and expected opening date are anticipated, giving residents insight into how this new business will fit into the Menominee landscape. This initiative may also contribute to the local economy by creating jobs and generating tax revenue.
