Minnesota's First Non-Tribal Cannabis Dispensary Opens

Minnesota has marked a new chapter in its cannabis landscape with the opening of its first non-tribal recreational cannabis dispensary in Moorhead. Waabigwan Mashkiki, which operates an additional location in Mahnomen, officially opened its doors on Saturday, setting up shop in the former JL Beers location at 2902 US-10.

The launch of Waabigwan Mashkiki in Moorhead represents a significant moment for the state, as it is the first recreational cannabis dispensary located off tribal lands. This new site adds to the company’s presence in Minnesota, with plans for a further location in St. Cloud.

In a social media announcement, Waabigwan Mashkiki expressed gratitude to those who have supported the cannabis movement, stating, “The first time our flower medicine steps off the reservation. A new chapter in a much older story. To everyone who’s been waiting, watching, hoping — we see you. We’re here.”

With this opening, the dispersal of cannabis products in Minnesota is set to expand, responding to growing consumer interest in legal recreational cannabis. The dispensary aims to cater to local customers while adhering to state regulations governing cannabis sales.

The opening comes at a time when many states are reevaluating their cannabis policies, and Minnesota is no exception. As the market develops, the focus will be on how businesses like Waabigwan Mashkiki adapt and thrive in a competitive environment while ensuring compliance with state laws and customer expectations.

The Moorhead dispensary is expected to attract both residents and visitors, contributing to the local economy and setting a precedent for future cannabis businesses in non-tribal areas across the state. As more dispensaries emerge, the landscape of cannabis in Minnesota is evolving, reflecting broader trends in legalization and acceptance throughout the United States.
