A new establishment in Covington, Kentucky, is set to change the local bar scene by introducing Greater Cincinnati’s first cannabis dry bar, known as The Green Door. Unlike traditional bars, this venue will not serve alcohol; instead, cannabis will take center stage as one of the main “spirits.”
The founder, Christian Perry-Watt, expressed her vision to create a relaxed environment where people can unwind without the pressures often associated with alcohol. She explained, “We wanted to create a place where people could relax and unwind without the pressures and stress associated with alcohol.”
The Green Door will offer a variety of infused mocktails, specialty drinks, and classic beverages like gin and tonics, but with an alternative spirit. Perry-Watt highlighted that they will include THC infusions and adaptogens, such as lion’s mane and cava, to enhance the experience.
The inspiration for The Green Door came from Perry-Watt’s experience running a hemp dispensary in Bellevue. She noted an increasing demand for hemp-derived beverages in her stores, prompting her to expand into this innovative concept. “We noticed a growing demand for hemp-derived beverages in our stores,” she stated.
Perry-Watt is well-acquainted with Kentucky’s legal landscape, where marijuana remains illegal. She clarified that while developing her products, they focus on extracts that replicate the effects of alcohol while adhering to state regulations. “When creating a spirit or tincture, you extract components from the plant. We’re focused on extracts that mimic the effects of alcohol, but we stay within the state’s regulations,” she said.
Although details about the bar’s interior remain a mystery, Perry-Watt shared that the prohibition era has influenced part of her design concept. The green door symbolizes the breaking down of stigma surrounding the cannabis industry. “No passwords needed—just come find us,” she remarked.
The Green Door is scheduled to celebrate its grand opening on the weekend of April 20, commonly known as 4/20. The venue will be restricted to patrons aged 21 and older, ensuring a mature and responsible atmosphere.
