Nigerian rapper Panshak Henry Zamani, known as Ice Prince Zamani, has spoken out about the common belief that cannabis can boost artistic talent. In a recent episode of the Konnected Minds podcast, released on May 24, 2025, Ice Prince shared his personal views on cannabis use among musicians. He stated that, based on his experiences, smoking cannabis does not enhance his musical abilities. Rather, he finds that it improves his mood without contributing to his craft.
Ice Prince clarified, ‘No, [smoking cannabis] doesn’t help with the craft. It helps with my mood, not my craft. There are many other things that can help with my mood.’
He further warned fellow creatives against feeling pressured to try hard drugs, emphasizing the importance of personal health and self-awareness. ‘It’s not for everybody. Health-wise, it’s not for everybody, so you have to consult your doctor. Mentally, not everyone reacts to it the same way,’ he advised.
Ice Prince encouraged listeners to understand themselves and resist social pressures. ‘Know yourself and be honest with yourself. Don’t do things to please people. Don’t do things just because everybody is doing it,’ he urged. ‘Know yourself to the core, and that is very important.’
His comments contribute to an ongoing conversation about cannabis use in creative fields, highlighting both the personal experiences of artists and the broader societal implications. As discussions around cannabis continue to evolve, Ice Prince’s perspective serves as a reminder that individual reactions to substances can vary significantly.
