A kiosk at Brookfield Square has removed its psychedelic mushrooms after receiving pushback from shoppers. The kiosk, operated by Ethereal Gold Dispensary, will continue to sell cannabis products, but the decision to remove the mushrooms was made at the request of the mall management.
Bill Fuchs, the owner of Ethereal Gold Dispensary, stated that although the mushrooms were “perfectly legal,” they complied with the mall’s request. Earlier in the month, Brookfield police confirmed that the kiosk’s operations were within legal limits and that there were no existing ordinances in Brookfield that would restrict such machines.
The kiosk has replaced the psychedelic mushrooms with a topical roll-on for muscle pain, non-THC sleep capsules, and a variety of gummies. This change reflects a shift toward products that may be more acceptable to the broader community.
Brookfield Alderman Mike Hallquist is currently working on a new city ordinance that would require all cannabinoid-derived products to be sold from physical storefronts. This proposed regulation would prohibit sales from kiosks, vending machines, trucks, and market tables.
Ethereal Gold Dispensary, located in nearby Waukesha, has seen significant growth, with sales reportedly eight times higher than two years ago. The dispensary also ships products to all 50 states and recently became one of the first in Wisconsin to offer delivery through DoorDash. Fuchs mentioned that the dispensary operates three other kiosks in addition to the one at Brookfield Square.
A recent poll by Marquette University Law School revealed that 86% of respondents support the legalization of medical marijuana. The poll indicated a slight increase in support compared to earlier years, demonstrating a growing acceptance of cannabis-related legislation in the state.
