Nyack Mom Advocates Against Cannabis Dispensaries in Downtown Area

Chaya Pilla, a local mother from Nyack, is leading a campaign to prevent cannabis dispensaries from opening in the village’s downtown area. She has initiated a petition that asks local officials to change zoning regulations concerning the placement of these businesses, highlighting her concerns about the frequent presence of children in that area.

The petition has garnered support from several residents and local businesses. Pilla emphasizes that her goal is not to eliminate cannabis from Nyack but to ensure that dispensaries are located responsibly. “This is about responsible placement, not prohibition,” she stated. “We are not trying to get rid of cannabis in Nyack. We just do not want cannabis dispensaries in our downtown.”

Currently, there is a cannabis dispensary in Nyack, but it is situated about a mile away from the downtown area. Pilla’s initiative reflects a broader debate within the community regarding the appropriate locations for cannabis sales, especially in areas frequented by families and children.
