In a recent investigation, Ocean County Sheriff Lewis E. Menninger announced that there is no evidence of marijuana being smoked by students in the county’s five high schools. This finding comes after a precautionary probe initiated by the sheriff, prompted by the arrests of 11 individuals in Monmouth County, including an 18-year-old high school student charged with drug offenses.
Sheriff Menninger revealed that the investigation involved interviews with principals and teachers conducted by Undersheriff Harry Roe and County Detective George Westervelt. The high schools surveyed included those in Barnegat, Lakewood, Point Pleasant Beach, Toms River, and Tuckerton.
Local school authorities expressed their commitment to cooperating with the sheriff’s office and the county prosecutor. They pledged to assist in identifying any potential drug addicts or individuals suspected of selling marijuana on school grounds.
