Colchester Family Ordered to Repay Over £50,000 for Selling Cannabis Edibles

A family from Colchester has been ordered to repay more than £50,000 after being involved in selling cannabis-infused products, including cookies, brownies, and gummy bears. The Vidovic family appeared at Ipswich Crown Court for a hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Sixty-year-old Paula Vidovic and her twin sons, Bradley and Brendan, both 25, admitted to supplying cannabis between May 2, 2020, and August 31, 2021. The twins also admitted to possessing criminal property, while Brendan Vidovic pleaded guilty to money laundering.

In October 2022, the court sentenced Bradley and Brendan to 30 months in prison. Paula received a 21-month jail term, which was suspended for 24 months. During the recent hearing, it was revealed that Paula Vidovic did not have direct contact with customers but was responsible for preparing the edible goods, while her sons handled the sales.

Judge David Wilson noted that the Vidovic family operated as a single unit, sharing household responsibilities. As a result, the court produced two financial figures for each defendant: a ‘benefit’ figure, which is the total financial gain from their criminal activities, and an ‘available’ figure, which indicates how much they can realistically repay.

Brendan Vidovic’s benefit figure was calculated at £60,563.35, and he was ordered to repay £10,291.12 within three months, with the threat of a six-month jail sentence if he fails. Bradley’s benefit figure was £48,190.00, and he must repay £27,514.32 within the same timeframe, risking a 12-month prison sentence for non-compliance. Paula Vidovic was ordered to repay £15,400.91 within three months, along with prosecution costs of £1,000, bringing the total amount the family must pay to £54,206.35.
