600 Pounds of Marijuana Stolen from Colorado State Patrol Evidence Container

Approximately 600 pounds of marijuana was stolen from a Colorado State Patrol (CSP) evidence container located in Arapahoe County. The incident was reported during a routine property walkthrough by an evidence technician on April 4. Although CSP did not disclose the exact location of the facility, they cited concerns that revealing it could compromise ongoing investigations and jeopardize the safety of evidence and personnel.

The investigation revealed that a secured trailer had been broken into, and the marijuana stolen was scheduled for destruction. CSP confirmed that the stolen evidence was not linked to any active court cases, meaning no legal proceedings are affected by this theft.

CSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects accessed the site on April 1, using a power tool to remove the lock from both the gate and the secured trailer. Following this breach, CSP stated that they have identified security gaps within the evidence facility’s processes. In response, they have increased checks on the security camera systems and enhanced exterior property walkthroughs to quickly identify any security issues and maintain the integrity of the evidence.

Additionally, CSP is conducting a comprehensive internal investigation to assess whether any protocols were violated during this incident. They are urging anyone with information about the theft to reach out to the Colorado State Patrol.
