Sunland Park Planning Commission Delays Approval for Cannabis Dispensaries

The Sunland Park Planning and Zoning Commission has decided to postpone plans to approve the construction of two cannabis dispensaries. This decision came during a meeting held on the evening of April 9, 2025.

One of the proposed dispensaries, named Station X, is set to be located at 420 Emory Dr. in Sunland Park, New Mexico. This two-story facility is designed to include not only a dispensary but also an indoor consumption lounge. The venue plans to offer both cannabis and alcohol products.

The owner of the property for Station X informed the commissioners that they have adhered to all relevant state laws. The owner stated that they collaborated with the New Mexico Alcoholic Beverage Commission and the Cannabis Commission to ensure the design of the property meets all state regulatory requirements. They also mentioned that modifications were made based on feedback received during the planning process.

The second dispensary, called Cronica, is also proposed for construction at 3801 Emory Dr., which is on the same street as Station X. Some community members have raised concerns about the proximity of these dispensaries to the Texas state line, where cannabis remains illegal.

A representative from the Sunland Park Cannabis Coalition expressed worries that the opening of a cannabis and consumption lounge would negatively impact the city’s reputation. They pointed out that the location would require patrons to travel through Texas, which could attract police attention and create a negative perception of the cannabis programs in both the city and the state.
