Trulieve Invests $19.6 Million to Support Recreational Marijuana Legalization in Florida

Trulieve, a prominent medical cannabis company, has contributed $19.6 million in the first quarter of 2025 to support a renewed effort to legalize recreational marijuana in Florida. This financial support is aimed at the Smart & Safe Florida committee, which is working to gather signatures for a revised constitutional amendment intended for the 2026 ballot.

In addition to the cash contribution, Trulieve also provided $84,417 in in-kind donations to the Smart & Safe Florida political committee, as detailed in a recent finance report available on the state Division of Elections website. Other donations to the committee from January 1 to March 31 totaled just $1,420, highlighting Trulieve’s significant investment in this initiative.

Previously, Trulieve had invested around $145 million to support a similar recreational marijuana amendment for the 2024 ballot. However, that measure did not achieve the necessary 60 percent voter approval to pass. The Smart & Safe Florida committee is now focused on getting a revised proposal onto the 2026 ballot.

As of Friday afternoon, the Division of Elections confirmed it had received 150,804 valid signatures for this initiative. To qualify for the ballot, Smart & Safe Florida must collect a total of 880,062 valid signatures. The committee has reported spending approximately $19.47 million in the first quarter of 2025, primarily for the purposes of gathering and submitting these petition signatures.
