Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management sets license lottery date

The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) has scheduled cannabis license application lotteries for June 5. The lotteries are aimed at both social equity applicants and general applicants seeking licenses in three key areas: cannabis cultivation, manufacturing, and mezzobusiness. This initiative is part of Minnesota’s efforts to establish a regulated adult-use cannabis market.

The OCM will specifically conduct a lottery for social equity applicants (SEAs) applying for cannabis retailer licenses, ensuring that these applicants retain some advantages as outlined in state legislation. Following the first lottery, a second lottery for general applicants will take place later this summer, which will also provide another opportunity for social equity applicants who were not selected in the initial draw.

Eric Taubel, the Interim Director of the OCM, stated, “The office has prioritized the review of applications for the license types necessary to successfully stage the market.” This proactive approach underscores the state’s commitment to fostering an equitable and diverse cannabis industry as it develops its adult-use framework.
