Oakland smoke shop shut down for illegal cannabis sales

Authorities closed down a smoke shop in Oakland on May 15 after discovering it sold marijuana and tobacco products without the necessary permits. The Oakland Police Department, in collaboration with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration and the California Department of Public Health Food and Drug Branch, conducted a joint inspection at the establishment located near the 3500 block of International Boulevard.

During the inspection, officials seized a range of illegal items, including marijuana, flavored tobacco products, untaxed out-of-state tobacco, and adulterated food items. The smoke shop had been operating without the required licenses to sell both cannabis and tobacco products. As a result of the operation, one adult male was cited for possession of a controlled substance.

This enforcement action was initiated following numerous complaints from local residents about the shop’s activities. Oakland Police Sgt. Jennifer Sena emphasized the importance of community involvement in ensuring business compliance and enhancing neighborhood safety. The operation reflects ongoing efforts by authorities to regulate the cannabis and tobacco markets effectively and to protect public health.
