San Diego City Council Committee Approves Extended Hours for Cannabis Dispensaries

The San Diego City Council’s Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee has unanimously approved a proposal to allow cannabis dispensaries in the city to operate later hours. This decision could enable dispensaries to extend their closing time from 10 PM to as late as midnight.

During the committee meeting, members highlighted the potential positive impact of extended hours on local businesses, arguing that longer operating times could increase revenue for dispensaries and provide greater access for customers. The proposal now moves forward to the full City Council, where it will undergo further discussion and a vote.

Currently, cannabis dispensaries in San Diego are restricted to operating from 7 AM to 10 PM. The change, if approved by the City Council, would align San Diego’s regulations more closely with those of neighboring cities that have already adopted later hours.

Supporters of the proposal believe that allowing dispensaries to remain open later could also help reduce illegal cannabis sales by providing a legal alternative for consumers. The committee’s unanimous vote reflects growing support for the cannabis industry within the city, as it seeks to adapt to changing consumer demands.

The full City Council is expected to review the proposal in the coming weeks, with many advocates hopeful for a positive outcome that would benefit both dispensaries and their customers.
