A recent survey conducted by The Harris Poll for Royal Queen Seeds (RQS) reveals that many Americans are likely to increase their cannabis consumption under the new presidential administration. The 2025 survey targeted individuals aged 21 and older, finding that half of cannabis consumers (50%) expect to consume more cannabis than before. This sentiment is particularly strong among young female cannabis users, with 59% of women aged 21 to 34 indicating they will increase their usage.
The survey also highlights economic concerns as a potential driver for this increase. A significant 76% of respondents believe that growing cannabis at home would save money compared to purchasing it from dispensaries. Furthermore, 62% of cost-conscious consumers expressed a preference for growing their own cannabis rather than buying it, while 40% stated that home cultivation is cheaper than store-bought options.
Concerns over product safety are another factor influencing consumer behavior. The survey found that 54% of Americans think most store-bought cannabis contains pesticides. Among cannabis consumers, 62% are worried about the lack of transparency regarding the contents of the products they use. Additionally, nearly one in three cannabis consumers (32%) have reported that news about product recalls and contaminated cannabis has made them more inclined to grow their own supply.
Shai Ramsahai, President of Royal Queen Seeds, noted the growing interest in home cultivation, stating that it is driven by both cost and trust. He emphasized that consumers want to know what they are putting into their bodies, and for many, growing cannabis represents wellness, empowerment, and transparency. Royal Queen Seeds supports this trend by providing high-quality genetics and educational resources.
The survey results also indicate that the trend toward home cultivation is already in motion. Currently, 15% of respondents grow cannabis at home, an increase from 11% in 2024. Nearly half of those who grow at home enjoy the process, citing fun and a love for gardening as their primary motivations. Interestingly, Gen Z individuals are the most enthusiastic about home cultivation, with 66% expressing a desire to grow their own cannabis.
