Humboldt County, California, has revoked eight cannabis permits due to non-payment of Measure S excise taxes, as decided in a Board of Supervisors meeting on June 17, 2025. Initially, nine permits were slated for revocation, but one was spared because it is being transferred to a new owner who has agreed to settle the tax debt.
This recent action brings the total number of revoked cannabis permits in Humboldt County to 65. Earlier this year, the county had already revoked 57 permits for similar compliance issues. The Board of Supervisors is actively addressing tax debts, and some property buyers have expressed willingness to take on the tax liabilities of previous cultivators.
Humboldt County 3rd District Supervisor Mike Wilson stated, “The following finds the permits to have been exercised contrary to the terms and conditions of approval and revoked eight permits per section 3, one two dash one four of the Humboldt County Code, and directs the clerk with the board to provide a board order.”
John Ford, the Director of the Humboldt County Planning Commission, forecasts that the Board may consider revoking an additional 20 to 30 permits for unpaid taxes before the end of the year. This trend highlights ongoing compliance issues within the county’s cannabis industry, as officials remain vigilant in enforcing tax regulations.
