Oklahoma Plans Stricter Regulations on Marijuana Industry

Oklahoma officials are set to implement stricter regulations on the marijuana industry to combat overproduction and criminal activities. This decision follows a report from the Texoma High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, which highlighted concerning statistics regarding marijuana use and investigations in the state.

The report revealed that Oklahoma is producing over 30 times more marijuana than is needed for its residents. This alarming overproduction has raised significant concerns among state leaders, who believe it contributes to illegal activities within the industry. Senator James Lankford emphasized that while similar reports have been released in other states, Oklahoma has not previously seen such detailed analysis. He noted that he has been discussing these issues with federal leaders to seek solutions.

Lankford expressed his frustration with the current state of law enforcement regarding marijuana regulation, stating, “You made your bed, lie in it.” He pointed out that the lack of enforcement has allowed criminal activities to flourish in the marijuana sector. Furthermore, he mentioned that both the DEA and FBI have been closely monitoring the situation in Oklahoma for the past couple of years.
