Henderson’s newest marijuana dispensary, Wallflower Cannabis House, is set to open after overcoming initial resistance from local officials. The Henderson City Council recently reversed a previous decision that had denied the dispensary’s application due to concerns about its proposed 24-hour operation.
During a meeting last month, the Henderson Planning Commission recommended denying the business’s opening, highlighting that “sufficient time has not been provided for the applicant to demonstrate that no adverse impacts will be imposed on the surrounding area,” according to Eddie Dichter, Henderson’s Community Development Director.
In response, a spokesperson for Wallflower Cannabis House indicated that the owners were open to adjusting their hours to operate from 8:00 a.m. to midnight. Councilman Jim Seebock expressed support for the dispensary, stating, “I have no problem with those conditions,” and moved to overturn the earlier denial.
James Hammer, the owner of Wallflower Cannabis House, expressed his satisfaction with the council’s approval while noting that the 24-hour operation plan is still being considered. He emphasized the importance of providing a safe environment, saying, “It’s a 24-hour town.”
The dispensary will be located at Via Inspired and Volunteer Boulevard, near a new Stations Casino development in the Inspirada neighborhood. Hammer pointed out that while many businesses aim for locations near the Las Vegas Strip to attract tourists, Wallflower intends to cater to local residents.
Hammer stated, “From day one, what we really wanted to provide is a welcoming experience and something that is accessible for everyone.” The dispensary is equipped with modern technology, including discreet pickup lockers, ecommerce options, and smartphone access.
He explained how these features will enhance the customer experience, allowing individuals to check their ID, pick up their pre-ordered items, and quickly be on their way. Hammer is optimistic that Wallflower Cannabis House will contribute positively to the community.
Local businesses, like World of Wings, expressed enthusiasm about the new dispensary. Co-founder Scooter Freeney noted that the presence of Wallflower could increase foot traffic to their establishment, saying, “We are glad to see a business come in that will help drive our traffic that complements our business.”
Freeney added with a laugh, “From what I’m told, marijuana brings on a sense of hunger, and we have something to feed that hunger.” Wallflower Cannabis House is scheduled to open its doors for the first time this Friday.
