Trulieve Cannabis Corp. is making significant financial contributions to support adult-use marijuana legalization in Florida. This year, the company has donated $19.6 million to the Smart & Safe Florida campaign committee, which aims to get recreational cannabis on the ballot for the 2026 election.
This latest investment follows a previous expenditure of approximately $150 million on an unsuccessful attempt to legalize adult-use cannabis in the state. In a prior election, 56% of Florida voters supported Amendment 3, but the state’s law requires more than 60% approval to pass a constitutional amendment.
Overall, Trulieve has spent close to $164 million on legalization efforts in recent years, according to campaign finance documents. The Smart & Safe Florida initiative, which restarted its adult-use legalization efforts in January, recently faced issues with state campaign laws. In March, elections officials fined the campaign $121,850 for several alleged violations of these laws.
As the largest cannabis operator in Florida, Trulieve operates 163 retail locations in a state known for having the largest medical marijuana-only market in the country.
