Anoka begins construction on new cannabis dispensary

The City of Anoka, Minnesota, has officially begun construction on a new cannabis dispensary. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday, marking a key development in the city’s cannabis initiatives. Anoka is among several cities in Minnesota that have applied for municipal cannabis licenses.

The dispensary will be located near the city’s liquor store, which adds to Anoka’s existing retail offerings. Kevin Morelli, the liquor operation manager for Anoka, discussed the project with KARE 11 in April, indicating that a portion of the revenue generated from the dispensary will be allocated to support city operations and community projects.

Under the regulations set by the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management, Anoka is permitted to operate one privately owned dispensary in addition to the city-owned facility. This regulation aims to diversify the cannabis market while ensuring that local governance can benefit from the sales.

As the state continues to adapt its cannabis policies, Anoka’s decision to develop a dispensary reflects broader trends in Minnesota regarding cannabis legalization and its integration into local economies.
