Haribo has initiated a recall of specific packets of its Happy Cola F!ZZ sweets in the Netherlands due to contamination with cannabis. This action follows reports of multiple individuals, including children, experiencing adverse health effects after consuming the affected products.
The issue surfaced when a family reported feeling unwell after eating the sweets, prompting local authorities to investigate. The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) confirmed that cannabis was discovered in samples taken from the sweets. The agency is currently trying to determine how the cannabis made its way into the product.
A spokesperson for the NVWA stated, “Samples were taken and cannabis was found in them,” and emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. Haribo has acknowledged the matter, noting that the recall pertains only to the specific batch identified with the production code L341-4002307906. They asserted that other production codes and all Haribo products in the UK remain safe for consumption.
Haribo has advised consumers not to return the affected sweets to stores but to contact the company directly for a refund. The total number of contaminated packets and the exact size of the batch have not been disclosed.
The company expressed its commitment to consumer safety and is cooperating with authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding this incident. Haribo previously warned that certain products could cause health issues such as dizziness, reinforcing the need for this precautionary measure.
