Nabis opens cannabis distribution hub in Rochester

Nabis has inaugurated a new 30,000-square-foot cannabis distribution warehouse in Rochester, located in a repurposed Kodak manufacturing facility on Lexington Avenue. This warehouse is one of two New York locations for Nabis, the other being in the Bronx, and the expansion is expected to create 50 new jobs in the local area.

With its dual locations, Nabis can now offer two-day shipping across nearly all regions of New York state, enhancing its service capabilities. The Rochester site is strategically positioned to assist upstate cannabis processors in accessing the New York City market, according to Will Brophy, Nabis’ chief operating officer.

Nabis, recognized as the largest licensed cannabis wholesale platform in the United States, partners with over 400 cannabis brands across dispensaries in California, New York, and Nevada. Founded in California in 2018 by Vince C. Ning and Jun S. Lee, Nabis has grown significantly since the legalization of recreational cannabis in New York in 2021, which has since achieved over $1 billion in retail sales. The New York State Office of Cannabis Management reports that there are currently over 5,250 licenses, permits, and registrations issued in the state.

The Rochester distribution center opened approximately three months ago, and currently employs 20 staff members. Nabis plans to continue expanding its workforce at this location. The company has a total of about 350 employees across its seven locations and operates a fleet of 150 vehicles to ensure efficient distribution.

Ning and Lee, who both have backgrounds in technology and software, started Nabis with a focus on providing effective solutions for the cannabis supply chain. Their efforts have earned the company recognition on various prestigious lists, including Inc. 5000’s Fastest Growing Private Companies and Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies.

Brophy emphasizes the advantages of the Rochester site, citing its infrastructure and the availability of a skilled workforce as key assets. He expresses confidence that the location will continue to support Nabis’s growth within the state’s rapidly evolving cannabis market.
