Mystery Cannabis Crop Discovered in South Australia's Blackfellows Caves

Mount Gambier police have uncovered a mystery cannabis crop in the small beachside town of Blackfellows Caves, located in South Australia’s South-East. This discovery was made during a search of scrubland on Thursday, adding to two recent local drug busts.

Officers found over 35 mature cannabis plants in Blackfellows Caves, a town with a population of around 70 people, situated approximately 30 minutes from Mount Gambier. Investigations are ongoing to determine who is responsible for the cultivation of these plants.

In a separate incident on Friday, police arrested a 42-year-old man from Penola. He has been charged with manufacturing a controlled drug following the discovery of a clandestine methamphetamine lab at his residence. The lab was dismantled with help from the Serious and Organised Crime Branch detectives. The man has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear at the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Monday.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the sale, supply, manufacture, or distribution of illicit drugs to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
