First off-reservation tribal cannabis shop opens in Moorhead

Minnesota has welcomed its first off-reservation tribal cannabis dispensary with the grand opening of Waabigwan Mashkiki in Moorhead on May 24, 2025. The dispensary opened its doors at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day weekend, drawing a considerable crowd eager to purchase cannabis products. Attendees lined up outside the shop, which features a variety of offerings including cannabis flower, pre-rolled cannabis cigarettes, and whole-flower beverages.

Zach Wilson, CEO of Waabigwan Mashkiki, noted that the line of customers persisted for hours, highlighting strong interest in the new venture. The dispensary is operated by the White Earth Nation, marking a notable expansion of tribal cannabis enterprises beyond reservation boundaries in Minnesota.

The opening of Waabigwan Mashkiki reflects a growing trend of tribal involvement in the cannabis market, providing access to cannabis products for both tribal and non-tribal consumers. This new facility is positioned along Highway 10 on the east side of Moorhead, making it easily accessible for residents and visitors alike.

As the cannabis industry continues to evolve in Minnesota, the presence of tribal dispensaries like Waabigwan Mashkiki is expected to play an essential role in shaping the local marketplace and increasing availability for consumers. The occasion was marked with music, creating a festive atmosphere as community members celebrated this new addition to the local economy.
