Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky has announced progress in the rollout of medical cannabis following its legalization in January 2025. As of now, the state is working to establish dispensaries, cultivation areas, and testing laboratories necessary for the operation of the medical cannabis program.
During the recent Team Kentucky Update, Governor Beshear revealed that 39 out of 48 planned dispensary locations have been confirmed across the state. Residents who have received medical cannabis cards can locate the nearest dispensary through the online directory available at kymedcan.ky.gov.
Since the beginning of this year, approximately 10,000 residents have obtained medical cannabis cards, and 15,000 have secured written recommendations from their healthcare providers. Due to the delay in the opening of dispensaries, the Governor has signed an executive order waiving the renewal application fee for medical cannabis cards until 2026.
In the Pennyrile region, which includes Christian, Todd, Trigg, Lyon, Caldwell, Hopkins, and Muhlenberg counties, several companies have been granted dispensary licenses. These include Mallard Club LLC in Oak Grove and three companies—ARKY Capital Investments LLC, River City Relief House LLC, and DPDMJF Cannabis Holding Company LLC—all located in Eddyville.
The establishment of dispensaries is a critical step in providing residents access to medical cannabis, and the state aims to finalize all necessary infrastructure to support this initiative in the coming months.
